The Story of Tea
“I don’t offer you tea, I offer you some tea-time to yourself,” I say when people as me what it is I am doing, or when people ask me whether I can make a living of selling tea. Pleased to meet you, my name is Jessica Van Humbeeck and I am a tea expert. I just love to tell you The Story of Tea!
In my thirties and born mumpreneur, I’ve been searching my way in my professional life. First as a translator, and when I became a mum, I started studying herbs and tea. In the meantime, I started my own tea brand: The Story of Tea (Thee met een Verhaal in Dutch). We have several shops and resellers throughout Belgium. Tea is my passion, but also my cup of comfort during the hard times of life and my companion during the good times. Tea helped me during my (double) burn out, the Japanese “Way of Tea” showed me the way to life again. It made sure my life is well-balanced. It’s so much more than comfort, tea connects people. Besides water, it’s the most-consumed beverage in the world, and to me, it means the world. I started my first tea course with the English Tea Specialist Jane Pettigrew, but the person who really got me into tea was my tea master Mei Lan Hsiao. She showed me the wonderful world of the Chinese Tea arts and thanks to her, I can call myself a certified tea sommelier. In London, I learned the ins and outs of the authentic British Afternoon Tea (no, it’s not called High Tea… please read my blog to get to know more about that). Traditional and all-inclusive: scones, clotted cream, finger sandwiches… and we converted all of the above to “The Story of Tea”, including proper tea etiquette.
The Story of Tea…
Green tea, black tea, yellow tea, white tea, oolong tea, dark tea, matcha, fruit infusions, herbal infusion, tea for childres… tea comes in a wide range of flavours, from soft to intense, from healing to empowering. Each and every tea has its story. My Story of Tea is all about quality tea and the focus on no additives. We import directly from small tea farmers from India, Japan and China. Through professional “cupping”, I chose the best tea samples and make my exclusive tea selection.
To the moon and back, Me-Time & Love Yourself…
I just love to experiment and create my own tea blends. “To the Moon and Back” I created for my mum, and when I needed it most, I created “me-time” for myself. For each creation, there is a story I would like to share.
But First, Tea!
In August 2018, I launched by own tea book “But First, Tea” in Dutch. It’s the story about tea, but also how to incorporate your personal tea moment in your busy days. A combination of delicious, yet simple recipes and stories, I like to inspire people to get started with and find their way in the wonderful world of tea. You can find the book in our webshop.
